Leading high street fashion brands Next, New Look and international footwear retailer Brantano are the first retailers to take space at Shires Gateway. All three retailers will be taking large, contemporary units fronting Bythesea Road. Parkridge Developments is also in discussion with a number of other high street retailers and will be making further announcements shortly.
Parkridge Developments began initial ground works onsite this month after being granted planning consent by West Wiltshire Council in March, which has started the long awaited transformation of Trowbridge and aims to increase retail spend in the town. Shires Gateway will not only provide much needed retail but will also see a new pedestrian street and public courtyard linking Bythesea Road and Stallard Street with boutique shops and cafes on the ground level and offices and apartments above.
Nick Scott Director of Parkridge Developments spoke exclusively to the Wiltshire Times: “Our aim is to obtain the best possible tenant line-up for the scheme in order to enhance the town’s economy. The interest that has been shown in the scheme is extremely positive and Next, New Look and Brantano will create an exciting mix at Shires Gateway and really complement the current retail offer in the town. We are delighted that they and other retailers are excited about Shires Gateway and are committing to Trowbridge, particularly in the current market.
This scheme and our proposal for the redevelopment of the former Peter Black, a joint planning application with Waitrose, demonstrate our personal commitment to the regeneration of Trowbridge. The Cradle Bridge scheme will transform the derelict site near the River Biss into a vibrant, riverside shopping, leisure and living destination and act as a catalyst for the revival of the wider area in particular St Stephen’s Place, Castle Place car park and the refurbishment of Castle Place shopping centre.”
Councillor Michael Mounde, West Wiltshire District Council's Portfolio Holder for the Economy: “We are delighted by the progress on the Shires Gateway scheme. Parkridge Developments has kept its promises, attracting new retail brands to the town and starting construction soon after planning consent was granted. These are exciting times for Trowbridge; the regeneration is now well underway.”
Shires Gateway is expected to open by summer 2009.
